Your roof is constantly exposed to the elements; different types of weather can have different effects. This is a quick list of the different impacts weather has on your roof.

Wind Damage

Wind:

Depending on the materials used on your property, wind can bend and crease shingles, or lift up the the materials applied. Wind damage usually appears at the corners or seams.

Snow Damage

Snow:

Snow is heavy, and can cause a roof to bow or even collapse. Over time, snow can affect the durability of the materials used for your property. It is recommended you remove heavy snowfall from your property when possible to mitigate the risk of a collapse.

Heat Damage to Shingles

Heat: Heat can cause immediate damage to roofing materials due to expansion and shrinkage. Depending on the materials used, heat can loosen the seams and sealants applied to these materials. Heat can also cause materials to crack, become brittle, and become susceptible to harmful UV rays.

Mold Caused by Condensation Under Roof

Humidity: Roofing materials are designed to be water proof, but if your roof has a crack or loose seam water can get underneath the materials. This leads to condensation which causes algae, moss, and mold to form. These are all hazardous to your property and the integrity of the roof.

Cracks In Your Roofing System Can Lead to Major Damages

Rain:

Your roof is exposed to rain consistently, and if there are cracks in the materials used for your roof it will lead to a leak. These leaks will damage the materials underneath your roof, and potentially everything underneath your property.

Each of these elements come with their own set of challenges and risks. It's important you have regular inspections or a preventative maintenance program to take care of any damages your roof may have sustained over time.
